Glamping essentials for your next Lantern & Larks adventure

Posted by Katy Peck

There's never a bad time to start planning your next Lantern & Larks adventure. After all, there’s so much to enjoy across our sites, from spectacular views to special moments with your nearest and dearest. Glamping really is an experience that everyone can enjoy, and we just know you’re going to love it as much as we do!

However, if you’re new to glamping, you might be wondering about what you need to pack. Luckily, our sites are fabulously well-equipped, so there’s no need to worry about bringing any of the standard camping paraphernalia. A luxury tent, bedding, towels, firewood and much more will be ready and waiting for you when you arrive! We even have a brilliantly stocked honesty shop on site, where you can find essentials such as matches, firelighters, loo roll, tins of baked beans and candles. For perishable goods such as bread and milk, all our sites are within easy reach of local shops, so you can always pick things up on your way!

But what else? To help make your Lantern & Larks experience one you’ll remember forever, we’ve put together a list of extras that you might want to bring. We hope it helps!

1. Games

After all, a holiday is supposed to be fun! From sports equipment and other outside games for making the most of the wide, open spaces, to board games to play beside the fire in the evenings (or should the weather turn), there’ll be plenty of opportunity for games during your break. Both you and the kids will love spending quality time together away from any screens, and you’ll make memories to last a lifetime.

2. Marshmallows & treats

One of our favourite parts of any glamping break is roasting marshmallows over the firepit. It’s a magical experience that the whole family will love. And the fun doesn’t have to stop there! There are loads of simple treats which you can create over the fire – find some recipes here. Remember, you can also arrange for optional extras, including a campfire kit with marshmallows and other fireside treats, to be delivered to your tent so you’ll have all the ingredients ready and waiting.

3. Dressing gown & slippers

As comfortable as our tents are, this is the UK and it can get chilly in the evenings – even in the summer! So bringing something to wrap up warm in is definitely advised. Bring your dressing gowns and slippers for padding around the tent in the mornings and evenings. There’s something extra cosy about curling up in front of a flickering fire with those few extra layers.

4. Battery pack

There’s no electricity in the tents, so if this isn’t a holiday for screens. However, we understand that if you’re exploring the local area, or want to keep in touch with other members of your group, it’s useful to have your phone! We do have charging points in our honesty shop, but by bringing an extra battery pack, you can extend the life of your phone and save yourself a visit.

5. Bikes

Our glamping sites are surrounded by some of the most wonderful countryside in the UK, and you certainly won’t regret getting out and exploring. Bikes are perhaps one of the easiest ways to appreciate the great British countryside, so make sure to bring them with you! Our knowledgeable team is always happy to advise on the best routes, and you’re sure to discover something beautiful on your travels.

6. Local maps

Speaking of travels, you’ll never regret taking a map with you on your adventures. The criss-crossing rural paths can get confusing, especially if they’re not signposted. The kids will enjoy plotting and following your route, plus you can work out how to include a pitstop at one of the many local pubs! We have lots of beautiful walks surrounding all our sites, so it’s definitely worth getting out and about! Here's a few walks around our Somerset site which you might enjoy.

7. Pocket books & guides

Another valuable extra for your adventures is a pocket book or guide. There are so many things to discover around our sites, from flowers and fauna to local wildlife, so having a handy guide to help you recognise them is a huge advantage. Why not challenge the family to see how many animals they can identify over your break? We also have ‘Lantern Goes Wild’ kits available on site, which help guide your little ones in discovering the great outdoors.

8. Binoculars

To help you with your wildlife discovery, why not pack a pair of binoculars? They’re a great tool for spotting the many birds and animals which make their home on site and in the surrounding area. Not to mention, they’re great for games of explorers and even hide and seek!

9. Picnic kit

You’ll need to refuel when you’re out and about! Bring something to carry food in, a thermos and anything else you think you might need to treat yourself to a tasty picnic! There’s nothing like resting your tired feet, stretching out in the sunshine and enjoying some spectacular scenery as you eat.

10. Wellies & waterproof

As with any UK holiday, the weather can be a little changeable. However, here at Lantern & Larks we like to think there’s no such thing as bad weather… just bad clothing! There’s plenty to enjoy even when the sun isn’t shining – just pack your wellies and waterproof and dare to brave the elements. And even if you do get a little wet, there’s no better place to dry off than in a luxury glamping tent, beside a cosy wood burner.

Of course, these are just a few ideas to get you started. We’re sure you’ll think of many more! No matter what you decide to bring, there’s no end of things to keep you entertained at Lantern & Larks. You can more information on what facilities are provided in our beautiful glamping sites here.
